Tradition that connects

Some 1,500 years ago, in the Shaolin Temple in the Songshan mountains (Henan Province, China), a unique union of Chan Buddhism and martial art took shape. The monks trained body and mind alike – discipline, mindfulness and endurance became a path that is still passed on today. From this tradition grew Shaolin Kung-Fu, preserved in countless forms (Taolu) across many generations.

A Shaolin Kung-Fu competition is not a fight against one another, but a stage. Every form tells a centuries-old story – and whoever performs it makes this living heritage visible. Measuring oneself against others is an incentive to refine posture and technique and to grow beyond oneself. This keeps the tradition from becoming a museum piece; instead it lives on in every new generation.

At its heart are respect, discipline and perseverance – values that reach far beyond the competition floor. At the European Shaolin Open Championship, practitioners from across Europe who walk the same path come together – to show what they have worked on, and to learn from one another.
